The Kadota Fig is one of the oldest and most widely grown fig varieties, prized for its sweet flavor, productivity, and adaptability. Originally derived from the Italian Dottato, this variety is popular in both fresh markets and for preserves. The fruit has smooth yellow-green skin and amber flesh with a delicate honey-like sweetness. It’s a reliable producer and can yield two crops per year in warm climates.

 

Taste: Sweet, mild, and honey-like with low acidity; excellent fresh, dried, or in jams and desserts.

Tree size: typically 10 – 15 ft tall (can be pruned smaller)
Fruit size: Medium to Large
Season: Main crop in Summer (June – July) with a possible late crop in Early Fall.
USDA Zones: 7 – 10
Requirements: Thrives in full sun with well-drained soil.
