The Ponkan Tangerine is one of the most widely cultivated mandarin varieties, valued for its excellent flavor and easy-to-peel fruit. It produces medium to large, slightly flattened fruit with a loose, pebbly, reddish-orange rind and juicy, tender flesh. The flavor is sweet and mild with low acidity and a pleasant citrus aroma, making it ideal for fresh eating. Trees may show alternate bearing, producing heavier crops every other year, but are highly productive overall and perform well in warm climates.
