White, Mamey & Black Sapote Trees
Sapote trees produce some of the most fascinating tropical fruits, with flavors and textures ranging from the rich, creamy, sweet-potato-like flesh of mamey sapote to the chocolate-pudding-like consistency of black sapote and the smooth, custard-like sweetness of white sapote. Interestingly, despite sharing the common name “sapote,” these three fruits are not closely related botanically and belong to different plant families. For convenience, we group them together, allowing Florida gardeners to explore their remarkable diversity and discover these unusual tropical fruits.
