The Thai Sweet Tamarind, locally known as Makham Wan, is a premium tamarind variety prized for its exceptionally sweet flavor and large, plump pods. Unlike traditional sour tamarind, this variety has rich, caramel-like pulp with only a mild tang, making it excellent for fresh eating. The sticky, chewy texture is often compared to a Medjool date. The brittle cinnamon-brown shell easily cracks open to reveal the flavorful pulp surrounding hard seeds. Highly valued in Southeast Asia, it is enjoyed fresh, in sweets, sauces, and traditional dishes.
